SAT 1 as originally conceived catered for 9 a/c albeit Jetway attached...so getting to 20 B737/A320 family a/c provided for at one time on SAT 1 incrementally over the years has been a very good maximum use of an asset.
It goes though to illustrate the problem of A380 provision at current levels/projections.
Hopefully when more stands including remotes & the recently approved mid-field parking become available then further adjustment can be made.
I wonder if they have split the stands into L/R? Either 2 737s or 1 wide body can use the stand, depending on demand and giving a lot of flexibility. They might not have felt the need to, given the relatively few wide bodies seen at STN at present. For the foreseeable the A320/737 are the dominant aircraft size at STN.
