I have never worked in the airline world but have been in commerce for 40 years. I can assure you that MOST companies now run very close to the wind. Airlines have a much longer sequence of inter-related groups as detailed so well above. The 'just in time' way of running business is now established throughout the western world. Nowadays, you have to reckon that if a meeting/event requires a flight - than add 24 hours to your planning. If you have a safety net of time - you proably won't need it. Same as allowing time for motorway delays.
