Seems like you're right, I just had a look at the planning permission and it mentions in a letter dated to 27th June 2018 that "The proposed extension to the terminal has not changed. However, plans have been revised to amend the two fixed links to accommodate
three airbridges and external stairs.". Sounds like they are pushing ahead with what definitely sounds like an A380 gate regardless of the EDI announcement.
