We had to apply just like anyone else off the street. As for the crew who had already been there for years, I only knew a few who transferred to full time short haul. Maybe it's different now but you'd likely still come after mainline domestic crew in the scheme of things if positions became available in long haul.

the lady at assessment day said 'our casuals went to become full time employees with Qantas, if you stick around long enough that opportunity will come'
What is the pay like, is it enough to live on without getting a second job and do you get any travel perks?
It would be ideal to be able to fly back home few times a month without having to pay for full fare... ahah...
