Giving priority to Irish candidates was expected, as they would certainly be looking to build a lifetime career at Aer Lingus and would therefore represent a great investment for them. A non Irish candidate could represent a risk for Aer Lingus, as he could be looking to make a move back home one day.
However, I believe the best and most suitable candidates will be selected, even if they’re not Irish.

I think this is a fair assessment. There's no point in giving up before the race has even started, just focus on doing your best and remain positive. Worrying about the company's own selection criteria is of no use, especially when it's something like what nationality you are - you cannot change that. I wish every applicant the very best of luck in this programme!
