There are 2 weekend closures in May and 2 weeks of early evening weekday closures. I have no doubt there will be more announced.
It's not just about Crossrail, essential work used to be done at night by large gangs working the few hours available throughout the year. Now they shut the railway down because it's cheaper. The train operator doesn't care because their business is cramming as many people as possible into trains to take them to London in the morning and home again in the evening Mon-Fri. These people pay top dollar for that privilege. So you won't hear train operators screaming blue murder about not being able to run trains that they don't actually want to.
And Stobart? Well, the more they protest, the more attention they draw to the airport's shortcoming.
