Educated guess here, but I suspect it's because the new wings are required to keep it airworthy - the engines can be overhauled indefinitely.
Also, unless there is an 'off the shelf' replacement available (I honestly don't know), a new engine is a
massive development expense.
PS, what do you feel is the issue with the engines - I've never heard that the A10 was considered to be underpowered.
