That would be 168. I remember that because I then went 165 Acklington and 163 Swinderby. Life was so simple then!

What a Flight Commander's boy!

Bas - whose attitude to the RAF pretty much matched the RAF's attitude to Bas

My father was Ian Sanford and was on 224 Course, commissioning Day was 28th October 1966. He then went to Syerston in 67, 175 course getting his wings on 24th November 67.
He was on the aforementioned No.39 advanced Gnat course in 1968, before heading off to fly Lightnings.

I have photo's of each of the above courses, and can post them if wanted.

He was killed shortly after I was born in 1976 while on the Gnat at Valley. So if anyone did come across him it would be great to hear from you.

Subsequently my mum re-married my now step-father Brian Casey, ex Vulcans, Buccanneers & commercial pilot, now happily retired.

Many thanks.

224 Course

My father was Ian Sanford, he was on 224 Course with a commissioning day of 28th October 1966. From there he went onto 175 course at Syerston gaining his wings in November 1967.

He then completed the aforementioned No 39 Advanced Gnat course in July 1968. I have photo's of all 3 courses which I can pm or post if anyone is interested.

My dad went onto fly Lightnings, before joining 4FTS on the Gnat. He was killed just after I was born in 1976. I am always interested to hear from anyone who may known my dad, I have most of his RAF photo's and memorablia.

My mum later re-married Brian Casey, ex Vulcan, Buccaneer and coommercial pilot, who is now happily retired.

Many thanks

Dennis

I was 222 Cerney and 39 Valley.

I remember Ian Sanford well. Have to go and unpack a few items and will get back to you.

Aubrey Clayphan! Wonderful to hear of you. I had a fairly trying time going through South Cerney, but always got a fair deal from you. I particularly remember you sorting out a "Sprog APO" (your words) who tried to stitch me for not turning up to Defaulters when in fact it was him who didn't turn up.

It all turned out all right in the end, and I'm glad of this chance to say thanks.

BA/BY - I graduated with this lot after starting on 172 - small problem with getting up to speed at maths, (well I think I was the oldest inhabitant and schooldays were a long time gone). Moved on to 6 course Leeming,
