Loss of Licence insurance
Hi to all pilots here !
I am a French pilot and am looking for a good loss of licence insurance.
I always find the same ones on the internet : Hiscox global flying, APPN and SAAM.
I contacted SAAM and their new wordlwide product seems very interesting for pilots ! I also got a quote from Hiscox but a bit expensive !
I am waiting for a reply from APPN but I am not very fond of the fact that they seem very affiliated to unions...
Do you have any advice/information on the subject ? I would like to get the best !

APPN have been great with me and some of my friends and colleagues. I know probably 10-15 pilots (non French) who are with APPN and two of them have had to use the insurance and never had any issues with getting payouts or anything else.

The main problem with the cost of the insurance is that the insurers assess that most of the people who take it out do so because they think they will need to use it. Therefore the risk is high and the premiums are high for relatively limited benefits. You have to make your own decision about whether you wish to take it or take the premium you would pay each month and put it into a bank account. The insurers calculate that they can make a profit from the gamble of taking your premiums against what they are likely to pay out, so it may be that if you carry the risk yourself and save the monthly premiums in a bank account you could end up with more saved than you might get from a pay out.

The link between APPN and the unions is exactly what you want!
APPN are run by pilots who want to help other pilots rather than by beancounters who only care about making money. If APPN makes money at the end of the year the will refund part of your premium.

SAAM
SAAM - WARNING ! Stay away . I have a case with them, won in the court against them, they refused to pay ! Waiting for 2 years + and now with a final judgement against them, they still refuse to pay . I did the mistake to trust this forum , where they announced themself as a good insurer - Be aware, they created from beginning of my claim troubles, even two AME stated I am unfit to fly , even the court has decided I am eligible, they do not pay.

Not that I'm aware of, and not in the 3 years I've been a claim-less member.
However, as a group, if there is money left in the kitty at the end of the year, everyone's premiums are discounted the following year. So in answer to your question, no but yes!

Hello everyone!
I am also in the same situation I am starting to think about medical insurance.
After reading some comments, SAAM is a bit weird to be careful of.
APPN instead, is what I want to know more about since I know also some friends did it. But I want to know more from others what they think about APPN.

I ditto to that! APPN, seems very honorable! Iīm happy to say that I never had to take use of my insurances - so I donīt know how that would work!! ;-)

APPN!!
I had to use them a few times in my career. Never a stupid question, never problems to receive the money. I know several cases when former colleagues got seriously ill and APPN payed them straight away.
For me it was the best decision I made in my active time.
