A330 fleet steady at 3 with 2 now operated directly by Wow and the 3rd being operated directly in Nov (Up until this month only GAY was operated by Wow and the other 2 by Air Europa). LAX not cutting but frequency increasing to daily plus Miami coming.

Accommodation is actually very good IMHO.

Hey Winston - can you provide more details about the accommodations and what you like about it?

Hi Iver. Accomodation is clean and new. We have a 2 room apartment each with a bathroom. All kitchen equipment is provided. In addition we have a common area with a shared kitchen.

Only potential issue is the limited number of rooms and the increased pilot workforce which means some are having to spend time in the Base Hotel which is far from ideal due to the lack of kitchen facilities. We are hoping this will be resolved soon.

We have to vacate our rooms when on the 10 days off which is not to everyones liking but we do have a storage area to leave stuff in.

We have 4 cars available.

All in all a great place with a great bunch of guys and girls.

Flying is great (I can only speak of the 330) and challenging.

Winston, if I may ask, what's the "take home" salary? I have seen the gross figures, but seems taxes are quite high (regardless of where you chose the base), so have been wondering what is the final figure, including all the deductions etc.

That will always depend on where you live. As with most contracts I presume you are paid a gross salary by contractor and you deal with taxes and other deductions in your home country. In some countries you will need to pay in social security payments (or equivalent) plus taxes. In some you only have to pay taxes. Some countries gives you the right to make tax deductions depending on marital status, number of children, wife's / partners income etc etc. In other words, net salary will vary widely depending on your personal circumstances.

Hi CP,

I am aware of that and know that in case of WOW contract you pay tax in your 'base', i.e. gateway port that you use to commute to/from duty in Iceland. For me it would most likely be SXF.

I ran the gross figure thru a German online tax calculator and the results look rather bleak - looks like Ms. Angela would take away ~40% of my income. I do not fancy that idea, since I don't even live in Germany.

However, there may be some tax deductions/returns/tricks I don't know of - hence my question what is the aproximate 'practical' take home pay - at least a ballpark figure for a CA.

I'm far from being a tax expert but being in this business for 18+ years I would say that your positioning airport is not the deciding factor in determining tax liability.

Deciding factors are, among others I'm sure, principal main office where company is based, where your family reside and go to school, work and live their lives and also where you spend most of your days over a year.

For example, if you position in/out of SXF, but you and your family live in Poland, I find it hard to believe that you would be tax liable in Germany. All you are doing is using an airport in Germany to get to and from work, that can hardly qualify for German tax authorities to claim rights to your taxes?

Like I said, I'm certainly no tax expert so I'd be happy to be told otherwise with regards to this subject.

Well, that tax arrangement info is straight from the horse's (agent's) mouth... I found it strange as well - hence my question to the insiders how it works...

Never trust agency for these things but I think you know that already. Speak to pilots who are there and in similar situation and then go with that info and a copy of contract to a tax expert in your home country. Once they have given you their view on it take that info to your local tax authority. Give your "solution" to them and ask for their guidance. That's basically how I have done it in the past and I always got a straight forward answer.

According to this thread on a.net
WOW owns 2nd A330 now? - Airliners.net

Two WOW A321s are now operated by Avion Express due to crewing difficulties. Does that mean you can be based there and fly for WOW for even less?

Looks like it. But if wow can't get crew on their contract then how is Avion finding pilots to fly for cabin crew salaries?

Agency seems to be changed to Direct2work/MountainHigh?

Any info what that could mean towards the conditions on offer?
