Thomas Cook Belgium Recruiting

I have seen an advert on one of my Facebook pages for applications to join a 2-year Recruitment Reserve (hold pool?) for the position of Ab Initio F/Os for A320.I can't read everything on the page (it's blurred) but it is aimed at rated and non-rated pilots (rated need 500 hours on type). The advert is dated 29 August and applications have to be in by 16 September.

I cannot read the email address. What I can see is one requirement which will stop most Brits from applying and that is that conversational level Dutch and French is required.

Who knows, it might suit somebody.

I could perhaps bluff my way past the Dutch and French bit but I think my age might be a bit of a problem!

They mention on their profile page that it is only for A320 rated candidates with 500 hours on type...

Sadly not for non-rated pilots.

Application via CV Warehouse:
CVWarehouse:RECRUITMENT RESERVE AB INITIO FIRST OFFICERS A320

Or by mail to the e-mail address in pdf-file:

You need to speak both Dutch and French.

If successful in the selection and if they need new FOs from the holding pool you will receive 2 summer season contracts (Until the end of October/beginning of November) with a possible 50% contract during the winter. TCAB will keep your rating valid during the winter.

After 2 temporary contracts, you will receive a fixed contract. It used to be a 100% fixed contract. However, last year the new FO's only received a 50% fixed contract, with extension to 75% pre and post summer and 100% during the busy summer months.

TCAB pays for the rating if needed, but in that case you receive only 50% of the normal FO salary for 7 months to compensate for the training cost.

Positive:
-Very good training/High standard
-Manual flying is allowed (Full raw data, no limitation)
-Good experience
-Great colleagues
-A320 rating
-The salary isn't so bad for a FO IF you have a 100% fixed contract. But take into account that you pay a lot of taxes in Belgium (50%)
-Nice destinations with lots of visual approaches. Great for flying skills.

Negative:
-7 months of 50% salary followed by a 50% contract during the winter is almost a year of reduced salary. A difficult year if you need to pay rent.
-So far no 100% fixed contract after your 2 temporary contracts, only 50% fixed with extension to 100% in the summer.
-Slow progress for Captain upgrade. (Unless some people leave the company)
-No career possibilities, no long haul.
-No guarantees: Management does whatever they want with new contracts.
-Say goodbye to your social life in July and August. (But you will have plenty of time during the winter)
-The job used to look a lot better 5 years ago and the situation isn't improving. Cost saving and happy pilots often don't go together.
-I don't know if your body and health can keep up with the fatiguing summers for many years.

It's not an airline where you want to spend the rest of your career but it's good enough to start it.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone!

Has anyone who's applied gotten confirmation, or better yet, an invitation?

-Theory test (Airlaw, Performance, Principles of Flight, Meteo): Open questions, no multiple choice.
-Interview: Questions about yourself and questions about different flight situations (What would you do in case of...)
-Sim: Raw data flying on A320 or B737 (Depends on which type you did the MCC)
-Psychology tests: In group and individual.

Got today the pfo letter. Dont get it. I can even speak dutch and french, have more than the required flight experience. What is wrong with me? Used the wrong aftershave?

Now im really considering to quit aviation.

4(?) positions and over 400 CVs received - you have to like the odds to get in! What is wrong with aviation?
