New Virgin Atlantic recruits paying for own criminal checks

As the title says: New Virgin Atlantic recruits paying for own criminal checks

I guess 25 quid isn't much if VS at least pops for their initial training (do they?) but methinks this sort of thing will just give MOL more ideas (or did they get it from him?).

Crazy, mixed-up world. I could sell tickets.

They got it from him. We do it already but we get £5000.00 gross as a 'pilots allowance' to cover various things including this so the Company dont have to employ staff to do this sort of stuff.

BA new recruits also pay.

BMI Baby charge a whopping 250 pounds via that same firm named in the report.

Yeah it's sh1t but then every airline job I have had in the last 10 years I have had to pay a disclosure Scotland fee.

It's certainly not just virgin, I think you'll find all companies are doing this.

It's another non story from the bbc, I mean £25 so what. It's it more of a story that airlines are letting people buy there way into the right seat of a commercial airliner for £25,000+ oh of course not !!!!!

BIGBAD has hit the nail on the head. How ridiculous to highlight a 25 quid charge when people are paying tens of thousands for type ratings and then being paid next to nothing afterwards!

Yes, but dont forget pay 2 fly in the LHS.

So you pay RHS then upgrade when you can afford it to LHS.

Soon it will be better to just pay and go straight to the RHS

BBC following the wrong story again.

And so the downward spiral begins!! It is up to everyone in the airline to stand up now before the trend is installed. Next will be uniform and meals.

Everyone includes senior cpts and not just the new guys.

BIGBAD

This really is a 'non-story' in the grand scheme of things. My wife is a teacher and had to pay her own CRBs when she was doing supply teaching. It's a bit of a pain, but let's be honest, it's not a lot of money is it?

Virgin didn't pay my travel and subsistence expenses to attend interview; another company who invited me to interview previously said they would. So what? Taking up a new job usually comes with a whole host of new incidental expenses. With P2F still prevalent in areas of our industry, £25 for a security check is no big deal.

And before the 'thin end of the wedge' brigade start berating me; at least some companies, including VS, will still cover your training costs, including the TR.

CW

PS: I bought a new shirt and tie and some shoe polish before my interview too. £56.75, damn it! If I had known that I would have to add yet another £25 I would have stayed where I was!!!
