747 baggage doors?

Forgive me, but TELL me, if this has come up elsewhere before (new boy, see!) but is there any sense behind what this guy has to say?.... www.corazon.com/

curmudgeon 25th Feb 2004 23:28

Yes it has come up before.............

At the risk of disabling the search function completely, search for posts from "John Barry Smith". He was a prolific poster, I recall, on the China Airlines crash.

Cur - thanks for your super-quick reply. I will check that out though, judging from your comment, it would be server -friendly for me to do it in the wee small hours instead of right now. Is it possible to say in a few words if there is any sense in it? the Libyan question is back in the news again now.

Captain Stable 26th Feb 2004 00:15

See the announcement at the top of each forum home page - Danny has disabled the search function for the time being.

Sorry about that!

curmudgeon 26th Feb 2004 00:23

I'm certainly not qualified to say if there's any sense in it - nor indeed if there's any truth in it. I suggest that you clear your diary for the next week if you want to read the postings.

And whilst its based on rumour, it definitely isn't news so I suggest that this thread be moved before any more posts push it to the top of the forum.

Captain Stable

Thanks for moving the thread - as you can see I was in the process of suggesting it!

I had thought that the search function was available outside of 'peak viewing hours' so my aplogies to anyone I've misled.

I agree, Cur, that it doesn't qualify as "News" but I thought it might just get under the door as "Rumour"! It came up as I was re-Googling Lockerbie/Libya etc. It seems that, whatever its merits in fact, the chap does seem to have put a lot of work into collecting chapter and verse on these various incidents and now that a "nearly" top man in Libya has once again denied their involvement it seemed interesting to revisit other possibilities.
I don't want to create a mega-flurry of postings and possible acrimony. I just hoped that someone, perhaps by a reference to an official source, might be in a position authoritatively to say "yes", "no" or "maybe" to what this man puts forward as evidence. At first glance to a layman it seems thought provoking.

Cameronian, John Barry Smith's analysis and use of facts was selective. He is convinced that the loss of TWA 800, PanAm 103, and an Air India flight (sorry, can't recall the flight number and am too lazy to look it up) started with the loss of a baggage hold door. Facts to the contrary were either dismissed, or woven into his failure scenario. My recollection of his sequence for PanAm 103 was that the door failed which somehow led to the bomb going off. On TWA 800, the door failure led to the rupture and ignition of the center tank. That of a piece of baggage lethally exploded on a conveyor belt at Narita at near the time Air India crashed into the sea near Ireland was sheer coincidence.

If memory serves me right, he was in contact with the Canadian lawyers defending the Sikhs accused of putting the bomb on Air India, peddling his version of what happened to that plane. Again, if memory serves me right, the lawyers declined to avail themselves of his expertise and analysis.

Thanks SaturnV! Big pinch of salt then.... If it's true then the coincidences relating to the seat numbers of the unfortunate passengers who were never found in each case are thought-provoking - so long as his "facts" are right.
Curmudgeon predicted an avalanche of replies to my original post (the idea of which left me slightly apprehensive, given the nature of some replies I have seen elsewhere!) but no-one seems to be interested. Maybe I should take the hint!
