Airbus "old" weather radar

Hi,

I experienced the following a couple of times on our "older" aircrafts with an older weather radar: When flying towards some weather with the captains ND range set to 40nm and the FOs ND set to 80nm the painted weather is totally different. On one occasion it painted two isolated cells (red) on the captains screen, while the weather shown on the FOs screen was an area of green with spots of amber/red...I am aware that some of the newer radars are optimizing the picture based on the ND range (and alternate between the ranges set on the two displays), however the FCOM does not mention this feature for the radar installed in those older airplanes, are even the "old" radars using a different gain setting based on the range selected? (The pictures did not alternate, it was different pictures at the same time on both displays, depending on the range)

Not a rant, but it would help if you gave the Airbus type and approximate age.
I looked at this thinking it might be about A300 wx radar, but we did not have NDs, only PPIs.
Same with lots of posts on here. State the aircraft type please.

Sorry, it's an A320, about 16 years old...
