A320 Fuel Leak Checklist Question

Hi there,

In the A320 Family Fuel Leak checklist (Case 2: IF BOTH INNER TANKS DEPLETE AT A SIMILAR RATE) it states;

when fuel quantity in one inner tank is less than 3 t (6600lbs)

CTR TK PUMP 1+2 ON

Can anyone provide a reason why this is accomplished? (And a steer towards a reference in the FCOM if there is one.)

Thank you.
