146 Cockpit Questions
I have a few cockpit queries that I am hoping someone could help me with:
Martyn
- On the 'ELECTRIC' portion of the overhead panel is a switch with GALLEY and SHED positions. What does SHED mean and what (in simple terms) happens when that position is selected?
- On the 'ICE PROTECTION' portion of the overhead panel are switches for AUX & L.VANE and R. VANE. What does VANE refer to in this context?
- On the 'AIR SUPPLY' portion of the overhead panel are two switches for ZONE TEMP DETECT that have LOOP A, BOTH LOOPS and LOOP B positions. What does LOOP refer to in this context?

SHED in this sense means to discard or remove the galley electrical services from the main supply system, thus reducing the overall electrical demand. It switches off the galley electrical supply.
VANE refers to the angle of attack sensors which consist of a vane in the airflow.
LOOP is a fire/hot-air detection system, normally based on an electrical detection circuit.
