Question Hong Kong (VHHH) ILS DME 07R Apch

I have a bunch of questions on this approach. GUAVA is listed as an IAF. It says cross GUAVA at or above 8000. Then from GUAVA to SOKOE, it appears as if you can descend to 3000.

However, what is the 4500' altitude hold at SOKOE for? Is that for the missed approach?

Also, if you do the missed approach, do you climb to 5000 and hold 5000? Or are you expected to climb to 8000 to re-cross GUAVA at or above 8000, then descend back to 3000 after crossing GUAVA again?

Your thoughts?

aviationluver,

You must be using old charts as Guava is no longer the IAF for 07L/R.

Guava is a waypoint on the STAR for ELATO 5A etc.

When Guava was used as IAF , 8000ft was the procedural min altitude whilst on the STAR. If you were cleared for a procedural approach to 07L/R you could descend to 3000ft by Sokoe and 2000ft after Limes

The 4500ft at Sokoe, which is now at Limes (IAF), is the minimum holding alt, which you can see is above the highest MSA.

The missed approach alt is 5000ft, and no climb to 8000ft is required as you are not on a STAR, you are on the missed approach.

Hope this helps
