Woodford Air Show 2012

Proposals are afoot for the Woodford aerodrome site when it closes next year.

Has anyone heard whether the Air Show is going ahead next year or not or where plans are up to for it?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt it very much. The site is in the process of closing and is due to be closed by the end of this year. The website seems to have disappeared as well.
A good idea but I think it just fizzled out as I don't think BAE supported the idea at all.

I think i got told by my dad when he worked there fopr a few months contracting that some of the buildings are heratage listed meaning they cant be torn down. Be interesting to see how BAE Systems get around this and id like to see the airfield turned into a flying club or historic museum or something else still keeping it as an airfield. Shame the woodford airshow ant happening by the looks of it never been to it just down the road

Thanx lots for both your replies:)

Thats a real shame was looking forward to going if it had gone ahead. I did go to one years ago, brilliant esp as the clouds were very dark and near the ground meaning all the displays were very close up.

And the sukhois just in a class of their own:)

It doesn't mean they can't be torn down at all, it means that appropriate permission needs to be granted for that to happen. As the real estate will be extremely valuable given the location and could be used for any number of income generating businesses bringing jobs to the area I don't think it'll be that difficult to persuade the powers that be to agree to demolition if they can't be used as part of any future developments. It's happened before on many occasions.

None of the airfield buildings are listed by English Heritage. I don't know if there is another list.

Incidentally, you can stilll see the camouflage paint on the main assembly hall as you come in throught the main gate.
