Reeve Aleutian Airways
 

I've been expanding the article on Reeve Aleutian Airways on Wikipedia. The main problem is a lack of photographs of Reeve aircraft to use in the article. There are quite a lot of photos on the web, but these aren't useable due to copyright issues. :rolleyes: To use a photo on Wikipedia it needs to br freely useable, either under a free of copyright licence, or one that allows free use as long as the author is credited.

Does anyone have photos of any aircraft in Reeve Aleutian livery that they are willing to release into the public domain so they can be used to illustrate the article? Anyone willing to contribute to the article is quite welcome to do so. :)

Do you know who owns the copyright to the photo's?
I'v heard of photo's in a similar situation being posted on Wik' with the owners permission.

Yes, it is possible to use copyright photos in a very few circumstances under what is called "fair use", but these photos are very heavily vetted and often deleted. Hence the plea for free use pictures.

I have a lot more. Sometime (sometime!) I'll get around to scanning a few more - I should have pics of all the L188s, 727s and YSs.

Note you said in the RAA item that they equired two 727-223QCs - the 727s were short body a/c, not -200s

I've added those pictures into the article, and hopefully got the copyright and fair use bit correct too. Just have to hope the Wikipedia Picture Police don't delete them now! :rolleyes:

That is Electra c/n 2010 ex N178RV, now G-LOFI as far as I can discover. Used as spares source by Atlantic.

The 2 Reeve Electras were parked at Coventry for some time, I believe both are still on the airfield, being parted out to keep the Atlantic fleet flying.

Correct, they are both still there. They never carried their British registrations but were re-registered at N4HG and N2RK. You may still hear the latter calling on the radio as it is used as a non flying engine test bed for overhauled engines.

Leofric, what is the c/n or previous identity of the other aircraft please?

I thought I had a dim recollection that a Reeve Aleutian Electra up in Alaska once had a serious powerplant malfunction in the cruise and shed prop blades which knifed into the fuselage sufficiently that, although they managed to land it, it was beyond repair.

But these references make no mention of this. Wrong airline ? Wrong type ? Can anyone guide me ?

One of the Atlantic Airlines Electras at Coventry has been re-named 'Reeve Illusion'

That reg rings a bell I thought. Indeed, checking the flight log, an ANC-SNP(St Paul's, Pribilov Islands)-ANC trip on the F/D of N9744C back in June 1989. Total of 4:44 hours flying. Memories :)

Yep, what a trip ANC to St Paul, 720 miles west of ANC in the Bering Sea! Also on N9744C.

The first schedued day we orbited over St Paul awaiting the overcast to clear but in the end diverted to Cold Bay and then back to ANC - made the red dust runway the next day!

Happy memories of the flights, Northern Fur Seal rookeries, spider crabs and the cliffs plastered with nesting seabirds.

That trip was a catalyst for much more in my life....

An excellent paperback "Flying Beats Work: The Story of Reeve Aleutian Airways was written by Stan B. Cohen. Friend's I made there back in 1979 send me a copy.

Just looked on Amazon and staggered to see only two copies available and the cheapest at £35+ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are correct - a L-188 of Reeve did indeed shed a prop, somewhere in the Aleutians if my memory servs me correctly. Seem to remember was not long after my visit to the area so I took a very keen interest. Remember that it was escorted by a USN herkybird.

At present am animal homesitting in Gloucs but when get back to UK base will look out the dets and post, that is if nobody else does first!

Looking forward to going back to Aleyeska from my new home on Quadra Island, BC in the not too distant future...

Remember now that due the prop impact damage the hydraulic's were shot - it however made a successful landing at ANC but then ran oft the edge of the runway...
