Would absolutely love to see !

Glasnost - fast forward 2006 - at its best, I suppose.

Late last year, a company named North American Aviation in Roanoke, Texas, advertised for IL76/78 crews. The airplanes were to be based in Lakeland, FL, and flown on contract to the Department of Defence for inflight refueling training for the Navy.

Had a chat with a nice guy about it. He was expecting 4 airplanes eventually. The part that surprised me was that he'd found four captains in the USA with IL76/78 experience who were US citizens.

And you think there's a pilot shortage...

May be conected ??

N78GF issued to IL-78 c/n 0083485558 to Air Support Systems.
A check on the FAA site -:

I've no way of knowing if it's connected, Dino, but at the sake of stating facts perhaps already well known by those here, Delaware is a convenient place for incorporation in the States for legal reasons. Many Corporations listed there rarely operate in that state, but in fact elsewhere... :hmm:

Well N78GF is operating in the US:

Keflavik - Fort Worth 2 hours 47 mins. Thats a cracking cruise speed for big freighter. Its a long time since I did hard sums and adding up at school:uhoh: but that doesn't appear to be correct?

Noise limits

I thought all original ( IE not PS-90 engined) IL-76/78 aircraft were banned from US air space as they are not CAT3 noise and emissions compliant.
I suppose the same loophole that fits the B.737-200 (AKA CT-43A) aircraft EG&G fly the famous "Janet" flights out of Las Vagas McCarren to mysterious points in the Nevada Test Range fits this as well.

Thats the time from when it entered US airspace to landing at Fort Worth, not the total route time.

IL76 are available now with new engines. See the latest Volga Dnepr addition (VDA)..

AlphaWhiskyRomeo 12th Jun 2006 16:05

Yep - it seems that Volga's newly-engined 76 is at PIK today flying to India.

TheAvGasDinosaur:

The B-737-200s, which had white paint with red stripes at LAS, fly to at least two locations in Nevada, known as "Dreamland", although the two locations do not exist. I doubt that they log much actual IMC experience.

Any military pilot at Red Flag who mistakenly enters the limits of "Dreamland" (if it exists) is debriefed and leaves the exercise almost immediately for his home base. :hmm:

The AvgasDinosaur 17th Jun 2006 17:18

I think the two destinations are Groom Lake (KTKM) and Tonopah Test Range (KTNX),but how do these series 200 equivalent B.737s get past U.S. noise regs ??At least Las Vegas McCarran (KLAS) is in conventional airspace and therefore subject to normal rules and regulations.
