High Latitude Flights
 

Hello!

I wondered if there are any flights from UK/Europe to the far east that fly up at the very high latitudes / north pole ??

If so, what would be the routing for a flight, for example, from LHR-NRT ? What countries are overflown, and what would be the chosen en-route alternates?

Whats it like flying over the north pole (apart from snowy)?

Some stop for fuel in Fairbanks
 

I, obviously, don't fly for a European carrier but I do live and work in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Personal observations:

--Every summer Condor/Thomas Cook operates a 767 to Whitehorse, YT, Canada and Fairbanks.

--All year long Air France, Lufthansa and CargoLux make tech stops in Fairbanks.

What's it like flying over the North Pole? It's just like Uranus. Very dark.

If you want to check approximate routes across the pole try this link, where you can just put routes in such as your LHR-NRT example here (which you will see just runs across the north coast of Siberia rather than over the pole.

IIRC the most likely to go overhead the Pole is the Continental flight from New York to Hong Kong westbound (eastbound it tends to be down over Alaska). In summer it's daylight all the way.

Have flown a NRT-LHR that took us way North, We went North of Novaya Zemlyn (N7700 6600E) then down to North Cape in Norway. Over half the flight is spent north of the Arctic Circle.
