4 Engine Jet over Andover 02/10/19

Sorry if I am vague, but first post of this type:

Could anyone confirm what plane I saw yesterday (approx. 11.30) flying low over Andover, Hampshire? The reason I ask was it seemed a bit unusual in as much as it was a four jet engine plane. From what I saw it had a red tail and blue decals on the main body.

Again, apologies if a little vague.

Many thanks

According to Flightradar 24 it was the QinetiQ Avro RJ100 belonging to the Empire Test Pilots School, Upavon. It was doing circuits over Upavon and flew over Andover and the West Country.

Here it is:

Qinetiq's RJ100 G-ETPL fits the bill, passed over Andover at 2000' around 11:20, had been doing circuits at Boscombe and then after the visit to you, it went for a bit of a jolly around Somerset.

Edit: Snap!

What Theviewdownhere? "Low over Andover" as in a bit like this?

https://video.dailymail.co.uk/video/...3014725930.mp4

No idea if this is a fake .... but having Rellies "Down Under" .... looks normal for that part of the world to me!

Brisbane apparently!

My boarding school was more or less directly between Gatwick and Lasham and every so often lessons or an afternoon's spotting would be enlivened by a Dan-Air 707 or 727 transiting to/from maintenance at Lasham. And low! They were probably at 1500 or 2000' but it didn't seem like it.

I believe the Brisbane C-17 footage is genuine, imagine an RAF example doing that down the Thames...

What about the MK Airlines DC 8s? Farnborough used to position them at about 8nm final for 27 for (hopefully) an SRA.

MK began life well after I left my seat of learning! We probably saw the odd Comet as well, I don't recall any 1-11s.

Here’s a more spectacular view of the Brisbane C-17:

and an in-cockpit view. It was obviously just a functional test of the GPWS!

Love the completely bored tone of voice of the GPWS in the second vid given the proximity of said obstructions (various). Shame the system was not programmed to react/respond as per the Aussies in the first video!

"Terrain! Terrain! ....... Terrain! Terrain! ...... Obstacles on the left! ......... Look bl%%dy obstacles on the ... geez!

WTF are you guys doing?!

I said 'Obstacles on the left' and what do you do? Hell, you're flying straight at that one now!

Oh, and some more soddin' 'Terrain' by the way, not that it seems to bother you dumb-a$$es!

Why d'I bother? ............................ "
