Easyjet on TV

Viewers are being shown the various stages of Easyjet crew training on a weekly program featuring scenes both in the air and on the ground.

The last episode showed a 20 year old, very bright young second officer doing a stint in the cockpit while returning from Toulouse in a 737 accompanied by a dozen other trainees and supervised by a training captain.

At a point during the flight the captain turned to the bright young thing and said: "
"Do you know we're over the Bay of Biscay ?"

The BYT looked nonplussed and said:
"What's the Bay of Biscay ?"

I'm thinking that my next holiday will be at home.

Oh bah humbug ya grumpy old bar steward, I actually took away a different message from watching what I think is a great show. That BYT is the same age as my son and I always fret and worry about my son out driving on the freeways and whether i should send him on errands or do it myself just to be safe. Watching those very skilled and wonderful young professionals made me realise that if that 20 year old BYT can touch and go an airbus my kid will be just fine taking all 5 litres & 402 horses under the hood of my German engineered pride and joy down to the liquor store to pick me up a pack of fags and a sixpack of Corona

They grow up quick! IIRC i read somewhere the average age of a US combat soldier in Vietnam was 19.

Capt K

I think I must have been watching the rubbish version of the show as well

The tones/script of S Fry made it , even less of an enjoyable viewing experience

The part where the female candidate said to the check captain after a successful flight "thanks I really enjoyed that" to which the senior in the jump seat chirped in "that's the first time a female has ever said that to him" was very funny. Mind you I was surprised in this PC world we live in that he dared to say that.

Thought it ok, call me old fashioned; F/O called Cornelius, another chap Hemingway Thomson with the verbal tea - TRE? called Toby. Where are the guys that have started flying singles/twins come up through the ranks and called Harry who was a butcher

Watched both episodes and thought it brought my profession into disrepute.
I just cannot believe EJ training is as silly as presented.

Basil, I quite agree. Very casual, sloppy, non-professional attitudes and some deplorable training standards...

Fortunately I haven't often had to fly with this bunch, now will I never do so again. 3 out of 4 landings on 2 easyJet flights last year (in benign day CAVOK light wind conditions) could best be described as...survivable. Just.

I don't mind much about the training standards but the purple trousers of the guy when he's wearing civilian clothes, WTF?

Flying an aeroplane is not a profession , Its a trade at best ... , As this dreadful series clearly shows.
No formal qualifications required to apply , Simply a fat bank balance

Guys, there is a long thread in Jetblast about this programme, including episode 1. Suggest you read that as it is much more informative than what has been posted here.
