You're all wrong, of course.
Longer routing = more vodka time! (Known as the "Yeltsin Vectoring" in Russian aviation circles).
I think before meeting Trump, we'd all need a Yeltsin Vector............

Actually this route looks reasonable for a VIP state aircraft since normally these planes need diplomatic clearances for the countries that they fly over. With this routing looks like approval would be needed for Sweden, Norway and Germany.
For example, this page describes the dip clearance process for overflight or landing in the U.S.:
https://www.state.gov/t/pm/iso/c56895.htm
I was flying in the Persian Gulf years ago with a colleague who used to fly right seat on Air Force One. A plane with a SAM (Special Air Mission - VIP flight out of Andrews AFB near Washington, DC) callsign was requesting a routing to avoid the overflying one of the countries, perhaps Bahrain or Qatar. The controller said it was not needed, U.S. military planes fly over on the airway every day. The SAM flight insisted and was given a detour as requested. My coworker said that the VIP flights would apply in advance for the overflight clearances and sometimes there would be a snag that would require another routing.
Air Force One for the G-20 summit was VC-25A 92-9000 and 82-8000 was the backup flying as SAM 45. As always, several other aircraft were 'in theater' supporting the trip. '29000' has upgraded comm gear installed in San Antonio earlier in the year and now seems to be the primary AF1 aircraft. One source claims that the SHF antennas on top of the fuselage have been upgraded by L-3 to the SHTF technology.

I think you mean Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
Perhaps the Russians didn't want to risk any potential interceptions 'for training purposes' as this would be seen as both disrespectful and emasculating before the big powwow at the G20 ? Unless, of course, Vlad wanted to have a team meeting to go over the game plan before arriving, and where better in terms of privacy ?
As an aside, didn't the French Presidential aircraft do a major detour a few years ago on the way to a state visit to allow the passengers to get a night's sleep ?

There was a time when, as a courtesy, Heads of State would transmit via r/t (through an aide or one of the cockpit crew) a message to the Head of State of the countries they overflew. If it's still the case, maybe overflying fewer counties meant less blah blah blah!

Thanks for the correction.
I've heard these greetings from third world potentates read over ATC frequencies in years past in places like Africa and the Middle East. Like calling the next sector ten minutes prior I don't think it's done much any more. Maybe the message is now sent by CPDLC or Twitter...
