So it looks as if they have wiped out any tail-skid that was fitted to the aircraft.


Maybe a tail-wheel with shock-absorber should be fitted, if W+B would not be affected.

Actually the risk of tail strike is greater at touchdown especially for these 'stretches' such as the a321, 737-800/900 and 757-300. Excessive round out and good off for a smooth touchdown are usually the culprits. A lot of airlines place emphasis on right place/right time/right speed for the landing and less emphasis on a greaser. Take a look at the A320 (Tunisair I believe) and you can see how it can turn nasty.

Tail strikes can happen while landing excessive hold off , cross wind landings ,wind change can contribute . Back some time around 99 to 2000 a 727 landing on runway 16 Dublin had a tail strike .
