787 wing bends like a banana!

Successful test of the new 787 static loads airframe - passed the required 150% of max design load today in Everett. Wing deflection was 25 feet during the test which was not broken like the 777 wing back in 1995.

Here's a link to the FlightBlogger article, complete with a pretty amazing photo taken at test completion.

I think a few nervous passengers would be even more nervous if they saw them like that

Wing flex

Just as a comparison, at the end of a major check on a Vanguard, we used to jack up each wing tip 13 foot - design flex was 13 foot up or down.

In my admittedly limited experience, bananas do not bend at all well.

They are often curved, but if you try to bend one, it will usually break pretty well straight away.

As long as certain parts don't start peeling like a banana, we'll be fine.
