Full frame Canon 5D & Sigma 18-200 non OS lens.

May I ask for a quick bit of help here, please, ladies & gents.

Yesterday, I sold a rarely used Sigma 18-200 mm non OS lens to a pal of mine whom is lucky enough to have a Canon 5D.

My pal called this morning and it seems that the 5D is too advanced for the lens - far too much chromatic abboration at the extreme wide and at the longer end of the telephoto lens.

Now, the question is will the entry level Canon 18-55 mm series I IS work on the Canon 5D?

A second question while I am at it - anyone have any comments about the type of week long photography courses you can take in, for example, London? They usually cost between £600 & £700.

Thanks and greetings from Cork.

Didn't think I'd be answering photography questions here... actually, there are probably other people here much better qualified than me to answer, but hey. I'm bored and have nothing betterto do!

OK, the 18-55 lens. I assume you mean this one?
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-56 IS MkII Lens - 5121B005AA - Jessops - Lenses
It is an EF-S lens which means it requires an APS-C sensor. The 5D has a full frame sensor.

The Sigma lens is also designed for APS-C sensors. If you fit the 18-55 lens to your 5D it would produce the kind of results you are acheiving with the 18-200.

Thank you kindly for your quick reply. So, the moral of it is if you get yourself a fairly high end camera like a 5D the lower end lenses are out! Ah well, my pal will have to fork out a bit more for some better glass!

Greetings from Cork!

That's almost correct. Just check if the lens is compatible with full frame. Most lenses are. In Canon's range, only the EF-S ones aren't.

It's not "abboration", it's vignetting.

Well, I should have fixed my abhorance of a mistake! Thanks.

I was lucky enough today in getting an old but still venerable Canon 35-70 mm lens that will do the trick. Tried it out on my own 40D and it seems fine - at least Kay Burley's mug came out in focus anyway!

The shop assistant at the camera shop was telling they have all ready have a nice few number of firm orders for the 5D Mk III.

Wish I was that lucky!

Canon full frame problem

Hi "Tom the Tenor". I've joined this a little late, but before your friend forks out mega-bucks on high end lenses, check out the EF range - there are loads available on auction sites. EF (as opposed to EF-S) are compatible with the 5D. Worth a try.
