Problem with Spanish DGAC

Good day
I am French and I was training in Spain CPL and IR ATPL, I made a tape Rating in France, I have a lot of problem to add this qualification on my license, the DGAC Spanish takes a long time, he asks me without stopping different forms. Do you have the same problems added to your tape rating what is the normal procedure.

In addition I will have to renew my IR during the month of August, how does it make what are the forms to send, it must pay and how is it possible for a french citizen, to send money to renew the IR (if we must pay)

Thank you very much for your help

DGAC

To avoid delays you have to send all the documents BEFORE you do the type rating, then once the DGAC says you are ok you go and do the rating, it takes 2 months if you feed them all papers as soon as they ask for them.

I was asked for:

-TRTO approval doc´s
-simulator jar aproval
-copies tri/tre licences
-copie of your licence (compulsada , which means found correct by a spanish civil servant and stamped by him/her, a police officer can do it for you)

-a certificate showing you have passed all ATPL theory subjects (this one you have to ask in writing to another department of the DGAC to send it to you)

-copie of MCC certificate (also compulsada/verified and stamped)

all up to date

Some of them make no sense, like copies of things they have issued (licence, or ATPL theory certificate), or MCC which you need to hve a frozen ATPL if yo have done an integrated course, but hey!! this is bureaucracy!!! get used to it as i hve always heard.

On top of that i was told they wont accept a TRE with a licence or authorization which is not spanish.

For the payment of the renewal, you need to get a form (ask them to send you one,or your former FTO) which is carbon copy type, fill it with your data and pay the amount through a spanish bank. that is done in person, i suggest you get a jumpseat to MAD to do it and to get the doc´s to the DGAC.
Any steep you do ,check with them before, you may end up wasting money if you don´t, any paper you send, track it and make sure they have received it (hard task, as it is very difficult to get the correct person on the phone), often papers do not arrive where they should, in the DGAC there seems to be a blackhole somewhere and regularly lot´s of papers get lost.

Do not think they are the only inneficient authorities, you´ll be amazed when you get to ask something to your french DGAC, i can say it´s not much better.

be patient, and if you can , transfer your licence to a more reasonable place like UK or portugal, they are more efficient and reliable.

I´ll give you an example, if you loose your licence, it willtake you 3 weeks or more to get another one.
If you have a UK licence, you loose it, you go to gatwick any day, even on sunday morning, and within minutes you´ll get a new one (more expensive than regular tax applies for quick issue but at least you don´t wait 3 weeks to be able to work).

Bonne chance

Thumbs down

You have named your thread ' Problems with the DGAC ' . Well as a matter of fact DGAC is always a problem, and the first thing you have to do as soon as you get the spanish CPL is to run to the CAA, IAA, or any other JAR countries and ask for an immediate transfer of licence.

Spanish DGAC is shit. You may think it's a jocke but unfortunately it is not.
1) they dont speak english
2) they never answer any phonecalls nor emails (In fact you have to be a champion to get their email address or their phone number because their website is totally useless and their is nothing on it.
3) they are indeed veeeeeeeeeeery slow. As mentioned above, everything is a problem, everything is slow. My ex-boyfriend had to wait for 2 months to get the type rating on its licence. If he had a CAA licence he would have waited 3 hours.

Enjoy Madrid

Just to add my recent personal experience:

there are only 3 options when u call to the DGAC:
1st (and most common): they don't answer the phone
2nd (quite common too): number busy, of course they are not using it, just lift the phone to avoid annoyances...
3rd (very helpful!): "no, it's not here, you have to call to this number..." where obiously you'll have these 3 options again!

The worst is that when you get to talk to someone they treat you like shit, I would strongly recommend you, as someone above, to convert your licence to an UK or Irish one ASAP!

Good luck!

DGAC

Your normally need to get DGAC approval to do the TR before doing it (can take a few weeks)

Also need to take JAR-FCL 1.240 in Spanish with English translations to the TRO and this needs to be completed by the TRE during the training.

Also need copies of:
- JAA Aproval of TRE, TRI, TRO and Simulator on which your training was done
- Licences of TRE, TRI
- Your license, MCC, ATPL or Theory Certificate (supplied by licensing department in DGAC)

I did a TR in the US with american instructors authorised to instruct for JAA. - It took a while to issue (3-4weeks due to a missing document but normally less) but eventually received it on my license. Its is a good idea to follow up your application with one of the Officers by email or telephone.

Hope this answers original question
