Hey Guys/Girls

Any body any ideas on if air asia are recruiting or will recruit in the near future??

Yup, my buddy applied for FO in third quarter last year and got the call 2 weeks ago to start Type Rating training last week.

i have tried applying to air asia via sending them a cv to [email protected] but have no reply what so ever!!

does anyone have any ideas on how to go about applying to this airline?

Malaysia has banned the hiring of new foreign workers in factories, shops and other services.

The government said the move was to protect its citizens from unemployment during the economic downturn.

It has also told employers that if they want to cut back their workforce they must sack foreign staff first.

Malaysia is a leading Asian importer of labour, with more than two million foreign workers - mostly from Indonesia and other South East Asian countries.

The first to be retrenched should be foreigners and not locals

The ban on new foreign workers is indefinite and will affect key manufacturing and services sectors which currently employ about half of Malaysia's foreign workforce.

Exemptions may be given to those working in highly skilled service industries and factories.

The decision was announced late on Wednesday by the Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar.

Syed Hamid told the New Straits Times that the decision had been prompted by a human resources ministry report which showed 45,000 people would be laid off by the end of the month.

"This is not the time for employers to ask for foreign workers," he told the newspaper.

"The first to be retrenched should be foreigners and not locals," he added.

Employers have been told that foreigners already working in Malaysia will be allowed to remain until their contract expires or until they are laid off.

Eka Suripto, an official at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, said up to one-third of its 300,000 nationals working in Malaysia's manufacturing industry could lose their jobs this year.

"Certainly what they will sacrifice first are the foreign migrants," he said.

Thirteen thousand workers lost their jobs in the last quarter - over 75% were Malaysian.

In a further sign that Malaysia's export dependent economy is being squeezed by the global economic downturn, some economists are projecting the country's growth rate could fall to below 2%.

I wish that was the case.. Not what I heard..(insider story). they have ask all new existing expat flt crew and cabin crew to sign a new contract..whereby there contract is shortened to a year. There is no renew of contract for the existing crew when the contract is up, you ask to leave. this is the demand for the government.

It not that Airasia wants this situation to happen, they need pilots..but it due to the government. somehow when situation about employment matters come up..first thing they clamp down on is the aviation industry.. This has happened before, it takes a year or more before they reverse decision.
By the way, even my expat friends in MAS, are not given renewal of contract..they have been there for 4-5yrs now...just because of the government say so.

just hang in there....be patient.. u need it if you are dealing with Malaysia.

There is no possibility for a non EU passport holder to get a flying job in Europe, no matter how experienced he/she is. The answer given is that there are sufficient number of 'local' pilots to do the same job.

The same thing is happening to Asia guys. There are plenty of local guys being churned out from the flying school, eager to pay back the loan and build their hours.

Why would they want to take in non locals?

Jetjockey, you are wrong. All expats in MAS got their contracts renewed.

Jetjockey please don't give a wrong information...all expat in MAS got their contract renew..and in AA they still recruit expat pilots.

Let me "refine" it better!

Malaysia government do not welcome expat airline pilot especially non typed rated captain rank.

All Malaysian Airlines only welcome typed-rated foreign Captain. Strictly no F.O. position opened for foreigners.

The Company I am with are short of Capts too and will take Foreigners at the moment. Not taking foreign Co's due plenty of new Graduates from Flying Training Schools.

I say again... :ugh:

All Malaysian Airlines welcome typed-rated foreign Captain. No F.O.or S.O. position opened to foreigners.

By telling the truth, it helps to save time and trouble to others.

maybe MH but not Firefly. they are gladly taking in expat FO's from a few selected places only.....if you get my drift.:mad:

have a look at CAE home page....i think they are supplying pilots to air asia.
for sure they did it in the past...i don't know about now...

TC not entirely true my man, AirAsia has foreign F/Os flying, some under the pay to fly scheme and others through CAE dont know how they manage it especially when there are still many malaysian licence holder looking for work.Must admit they are damn lucky, it is almost impossible to do the reciprocal for a malaysian out of an aviation job
