LKE - Lucky Air
Hi Colleques,
I am looking at applying for captain position in Lucky Air.
Does anyone have any info about that company ?
I mean the salary looks ok, but what about roster, vacation, conditions, and what about the area in Kunming ?
I see a lot of other posts regarding working for the Chinese, is it really that bad working in China ?
I really like some input before I continue applying.
Thanks

It is with The Hainan group so maybe worth email their Expat HR email (see on large Hainan adverts on this website)

As has been mentioned repeatedly WRT working for the Chinese:
The contract is not worth the paper it's written on, they can and will change it without notice to suit their requirements.
Generally speaking the local pilots do not like you, you are seen to be taking their jobs.
If the choking pollution doesn't kill you, the smoking in the cockpit will.
I worked for a Hainan company, never again.
Of course, you will get the usual desperadoes, Inc contract company stooges that will refute this but just do your own research

LKE - Don’t even think about it
I spent a couple of years in Kunming working with LKE . Terrible unstable 7 day rosters . Unprofessional petulant office managers who acted like school principals , Confused mindless flight training department that kept some pilots in training for over a year before terminating their contracts for seemingly no reason . QAR culture so stupid it compromised safety . Fines up to $10,000 US for QAR events . 1 pilot was fined $6 K US for doing a go around . As a member of the Hainan group , due to their confused finances some months salaries are delayed or part paid .2 star accomodation in the middle of nowhere for over a week at times in obscure Chinese cities .They avoid paying any overtime and do not promote foreign pilots to instructors even though it’s claimed in their salary statements It might sound like sour grapes however I had a good job to go Back to so I finally gave up and went back to it . I was personally never fined and checked out immediately with no issues . What I saw made me shake my head though . If you decide to fly in China pick a major international carrier. Xiamen is the only domestic operator I would recommend however after their recent mishap
in Manila with a foreign pilot I’m not sure how they are going at the moment . Flying for a tin pot wannabe airline will end in tears and frustration .

I can't agree with all words. I think now situation is a little bit better. May be office managers are the same 😂
But now we don't have so many days out of Kunming. All 36 hours should be at your base. I never heard about fines for QAR, except the hard landing,And wrong taxi . Salary always on time ( may be it depends also on your agency) Hotels in some cities is really not so good. Biggest problem, but it's not only in Lucky , its simulators and some checks. They don't explain you anything, and you can fail it without any reasons.
Mmmm, I see you didn't read flying upside down before heading to China Herb

Avoid Lucky Air !
their rate of sim failure is excessively high, without decent reasons.
downgrading Captains to FO for six months, or more, due to sim small errors, is also very common.
some instructors/examiners treat you with contempt, we don't understand then why they look for expats ?
I have 3 friends and colleagues who went there for assessment. They must show wearing a business casual suit and perfect tie, but the examiner arrives late to the briefing, wearing jogging and sport shoes, asks the candidates some personal questions, and right after answers, talks in Chinese with his compatriots and starts laughing.
All of them were very experienced, however the debriefing and the grading given was like they never touched any airplane controls.
several Captains left Lucky for other Chinese airlines like Xiamen Airlines.
from all what I heard, as I'm also interested in applying to China, the major (and only ?) good point is the city, Kunming. Beautiful mountainous place and relatively not polluted.
