Lion Air offering 13k for CP...

Having an offer to fly for Lion Air for 13100. Any ideas how bad is there flying in Indonesia? Life should be cheap over there. Anybody actually flying for Lion Air , any advises ?! Heard mostly negative feedbacks . Do they really fly 110 hours per month?

The good things first, the indonesian people are nice, Jakarta has a lot of things going on so you won't be bored.
Now working for lion: I am sure you already know what's all there is to know.
Keep in mind about the new dgca rules too, they don't want a lot of foreigners flying in Indonesia.
110 is what will be shown on the computer, expect to fly over 110. As you do your schedule expect them to be deleted so they can make it legal on computer.
You will be flying 5 days on one day off.
Jakarta is not a cheap place to live if you are an expat. A decent apartment in a decent area will cost around 700/800 usd. If you eat out expect around 70/100 usd esp if with company.

Well... 700/800 usd is not that bad , taking into account that now I'm paying 2800 usd in UAE.. you sounds actually more positive.. at least its looks so. They say 4 tickets per year. Do they have any ID tickets with other airlines ?

Your FOs and some of your fellow captains have paid to work with wet little experience or common sense behind them ,

Some things are more important than a cheap 13k salary , there are better options out there

@Punchy2609 about the four tickets you might want to make sure about that, normally tickets for crew are given as last priority, and you still got to pay for tax an admin charge which ends up like 75% of the ticket price anyways.
You won't even be given I'd tickets on the sister companies so you can forget about if tickets with other companies.

I heard that a lot of people flying there is a bit of lower level let say.. yea, and the company as far as I heard was blacklisted a while ago! But if not going to China, then this conditions seems to be quite comparable. No tickets is not fun at all. Flying home from the other side of the globe for full fare ?! That's something to keep in mind.

These guys can handle an aircraft, it's the operation of the company that you will have an issue with.
If not China, there is also India, Vietnam, Thailand.
These places also offer you same money if not better

Yea, Vietnam and Thailand would be great I guess ! But never heard any offers for 737 CPs over there....

You've got Nok Air and Thai Lion Air for 737 skippers in Thailand. Taxes apply though, and no commuting, but it serves the purpose of leaving the sand pit all right.

They haven't looked too financially stable for a while now since the pilot walkout, http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far...walkout-2.html

I know a bunch of the expat Capts at Thai Lion who are all very happy there. They haven't recruited any expats since early this year as they changed the package to a local one and no more a/c coming until next March, but they will be taking 13 MAX in 2018!

These guys have done most of the recruitment for Thai Lion and are based there, http://www.aviationagentasia.com/ so you might want to email them if Thai Lion does start recruitment again early next year.

Lion is an easy bet for now if you can handle the roster and constant changes.

Be careful

According Indonesian regulations you can fly 110 hours monthly or 1050 annually. But the company is adding airplane faster than they can produce pilots. So go figure... they will ask your help to fly as they don’t have pilots. And for sure they will erase the record to keep you happy. Payment wise they will offer big money for those willing to fly more than limits.

Unstable roster as commercial department wants: to 1. Sell as many flight as possible.
2. Combine those flights which don’t reach BEP. on daily basis they will cancel fights. Even you have biweekly roster, your life will be depending to your phone. SMS schedule revision on daily basis. If you say no to scheduling then they will insist, after several times the chief or the assistant will give you a call.

Apartment rent is pretty cheap compared to sandpit. Also food is relative LT cheap especially if you are keen to try local.

Training emphasizes on Boeing FCOM. Many new airports has ILS. smaller airports has VOR DME approach with 2200 m. long runway with bumpy surface.

Your buddy on the right seat will be speaking level 4 English (at least on paper). However you will find many will struggle if engaged in daily (non aviation) conversation. Very few have level 5 let alone 6. Expect the same level of English with ATC. Engineers also are limited in English. Could result in wrong MEL item selected, such as selecting INDICATIONS as being in MEL relief instead of the ACTUAL SYSTEM. you’re on your own.

Be be very careful with the inflight crew meal. it’s highly recommended to grab a sandwich on the terminal ont he way to the gate. Be mindful if you ask for snacks as it’s on the FA’s money.

company support: when you’re near home base or major airport it’s usually VHF. HF although provided is rarely manned. No ACARS nor SATCOM. No layover phone and off course no company credit card. Not even for fuel.

Outside Indonesia, B737 will fly to China, Korea, Jeddah (via Trivandrum). If it’s enlarged crew don’t worry they have single class economy only. Minimal to none training on how to fly in cold wx, hot wx, QFE operation (required on certain destination din China).
ILS CAT I only. No lowvis. LNAV VNAV, no IAN, no HUD. The company have been trying to obtain RNP APCH AR but there was hindrances in the certification. And the most interesting is of course NDB 36 circling to MDC. one good side is they don’t really care how much extra fuel you carry.

If thereis LMC make sure the amend the manifest as well. Need to really check if they offload the baggage if there’s pax offload. It’s PIC job.

And you will be in the blind like in the 70s. You don’t get to read any ASR/CSR as they are for managers eyes only. And you don’t have channel to report to the authority.

It always looks greener on the other side.

Strange then that they stopped expat Capt recruitment before Easter.......

I assume the local FOs had another cycle of making a fuss about foreign Capts and demanding upgrades at 1000hrs! (Sarcasm in that 1k figure but seemingly not far from the reality....)

1000 hours for upgrade is no way. 3000 hours is more likely.

DO NOT go there

Do NOT go the company regardless the amount they had named. That’s only a suggestion from myself. Be prepared something that you hadn’t ever considered should be a problem, if you’d like to go.

In in case you’d like to work in lion as the last company you would fly in, 13100 per month with 90 hours is not bad. Their regular routes are mostly between 40 minuets to 90 minuets. They also have charter flights to mid-east, Korean China, etc.

Interestingly, a bunch of agencies are advertising Lion NG recruitment and a Bali base even though there is no current expat recruitment nor a Bali base!!

What is asked in the interview and how's the sim assessment profile in loin air ?

Generally, it was easy for me, both Sim and interview. I can hardly remember the details of the interview. I remember they asked me why did I choose Lion. I don’t know how much has the company improved, I wouldn’t attempt again.

Lion air

Hi everybody, anyone know what expect in interview ? After 2 weeks will have assessment in Jakarta.

And how is working there. They said it is not good company. Is that true?
