BNN Arrests Susi Air Pilots over Drug Abuse

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The management of domestic carrier Susi Air confirmed two of its pilots are currently being probed by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) for allegedly consuming illegal drugs. Earlier on Wednesday, January 11, 2016, two Susi Air pilots were taken to BNN’s headquarter after undergoing urine test conducted by the BNN in Cilacap, Central Java, at Tunggul Wulung Airport.

“They [the two pilots] will undergo more tests in the next three days at the BNN. So, we’re still waiting for more accurate results,” Susi Air Business Commercial and Legal Manager Irvino Samuel Monjaga told Tempo on Thursday, January 12, 2017.

Irvino clarified that Susi Air conducts random urine tests regularly for its pilots. However, Irvino refused to comment about the recent finding.

“We’re still investigating the case. We’ll see about the results, whether it is positive or otherwise,” he added.

After being tested positive for using drugs, Susi Air Pilots, Bas Hellings and David Eloy, had been restricted from flying airplanes.

BNN spokesperson Sr. Comr. Slamet Pribadi said that the test results are expected to be announced next week.

“[The test results will come out] in three or four days, probably on Monday or Tuesday,” Slamet said.

After the tests are completed, the BNN will conduct an assessment to determine whether both pilots are drug users or dealers.
