EVA Air's owning family airs it's dirty laundry

Ousted head refuses to stay on as EVA Air pilot - The China Post

The son of EVA's recently deceased Chairman's second wife had been running EVA Air. While the children of the Chairman's first wife had apparently been running Evergreen Marine (parent company of EVA Air) and Evergreen Hotels.

After the Chairman passed away he declared himself the new Chairman of the entire group, by virtue of his Dad's will. Much to the surprise of the rest of the family who promptly removed him from his self promoted position (but allowed him to remain as a pilot for EVA Air, a position Chang the younger refused) and declared that the Old Man had said no such thing.

I guess the Courts in Taiwan will have to find out what the late Chairman's will actually said.

Wonder how all this infighting will affect Evergreen Marine Corporation, its hotels and EVA Air, especially as Chang the younger was seen as a visionary leader for EVA Air.

As reported in the Taiwan news, his brothers called a special board meeting while he was out flying a trip, fired him as CEO, had him removed as Captain of the return leg, and made him deadhead home.

Technically the will was fulfilled, as he was allowed to sit as Evergreen Group Chairman for two days. Then they actually abolished the position, so that even if he prevailed in court on the will, there would no longer be any Group Chairman post to assume. That's where the case would really get nebulous.

The new EVA CEO was the previous one before Mr. Chang assumed the role. Hopefully this doesn't adversely affect their overall quality as an airline.
