Side Step Approaches - India
Hello,
Is there anything anywhere not allowing us to do side step approaches in India?
I have been going through all the CAR's and I can't seem to find anything.
The reason I ask this and think this is useful is in a place like Hyderabad. When the secondary runway is being used, even with the visibility being 6km I find it rather difficult to spot the aerodrome. The VOR DME approach for the primary runway could perhaps be used with the sidestep minimums for the same and perhaps offer a instrument aid for making an approach into the secondary runway.
Regards,
Vinayak

Forget the side step approach, even a circle to land is not allowed.
There are no GPS approaches, infact GPS is not even recognized as a means of navigation, since it is an American controlled system...
It will take a few million light years for the DGCA to grow up....

Well they have in the last year started recognizing GPS, as they have to!
RNP approvals are in hand for our company like many others with sole means of navigation from GPS, gives us Rnav 1,2,5,10 . GPS approaches.... soon, the CAP document has guidance but we cant get approval yet.
Stupid though as you take your VT aircraft to a normal country and suddenly you are severely limited as 'legally' you cant do a GPS approach, why the DGCA seems to think the GPS approach is such a difficult thing and needs special approval is beyond comprehension!
Problem with India, is you have the DGCA controlling the pilots and aircraft and the clueless AAI controlling the ATC system, its ridiculous, the AAI is so stuck in a timewarp its not funny..and all the controllers without ICAO training or licenses dont even start with that... sidestep ! They wont even understand that. terminology.
