Thumbs up The wait is over they are finally there "AirAsia India ticket sales open on May 30"

AirAsia India ticket sales open on May 30; first flight on June 12

Mumbai: AirAsia India will start flying from June 12, its chief of its Malaysian parent company said Thursday, ending months of wait for passengers eager to fly the airline which claims to be bringing in the cheapest air tickets in the country.

"Very very proud to announce AirAsia India open for sale tomorrow. Wow. First flight June 12th. See you all In India on the 12th," Tony Fernandes posted from his Twitter account.

On May 8, the airline got its flying permit from the DGCA, clearing its final regulatory hurdle. The airline, set up as a joint venture between its Malaysian parent AirAsia Berhad, Tata Sons and private investor Arun Bhatia, announced its plans on February 19.

In his tweet, Fernandes' didn't write about which sector the airline would be flying first. But on Monday it sent a letter to travel agents saying Bangalore-Goa was the "only sector available". It has its base in Chennai.

AirAsia's entry is slated to heat up competition in the Indian skies, currently dominated in terms of marketshare by low fare carriers such as IndiGo, Go Air and SpiceJet.

Its India CEO Mittu Chandilya had in a recent interview said it will offer fares 30%-35% lower than the average fares of its rivals.

In his interview, Chandilya had said the first flight would "possibly" be out of Chennai but that may change.

AirAsia India will most likely fly to all metros but exclude Mumbai.

"Our network isn't finalised yet but we are looking at a 60:40 ratio of Tier II routes to metro routes with 60 being Tier II," he had said.

But AirAsia will also be entering a market, in which a majority of the carriers are bleeding under heavy losses, owing to high fuel costs, discounted prices and a weak rupee.

Earlier this week, India's second biggest carrier Jet Airways posted a record standalone loss Rs 2,154 crore for the Jan-March quarter. On May 17, SpiceJet announced its quarterly loss rose five times to Rs 321 crore while while annual losses rose surged more than five fold to a record high of Rs 1003 crore.

Concentrating on Airline maybe?,,

The Caterham F1 team has been sold by owner Tony Fernandes to a Swiss and Middle Eastern consortium. The new owners will be advised by former Midland and HRT team principal Colin Kolles, and they will continue to race under the Caterham name.
Caterham in F1

  • Debut: 2010 (as Team Lotus)
  • Points: 0
  • Best race finish: 11th - Vitaly Petrov at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix
  • Best team finish: 10th (2010, 2011, 2012)

Former Dutch F1 driver, Christijan Albers, will take over the running of the team, assisted by Manfredi Ravetto.
"We are aware of the huge challenge ahead given the fight at the bottom end of the championship," said Albers.
"Our target now is to aim for 10th place in the 2014 championship.
"We are very committed to the future of the team and will ensure it has the necessary resources to develop, grow and achieve everything it is capable of."
Both Caterham drivers, Sweden's Marcus Ericsson, and Kamui Kobayashi of Japan, have failed to collect a point from eight races and the team are last in the Constructors' Championship.
Malaysian businessman Fernandes, who is also the chairman of Premier League club Queens Park Rangers, entered F1 four years ago with what was then called Lotus Racing.
The Oxfordshire-based team's name was changed to Caterham in 2012 after Fernandes bought the manufacturer of lightweight sports cars. Caterham F1 will now have no links with the rest of the Caterham Group, which is still owned by Fernandes and comprises two technology companies as well as the car manufacturing arm.
Frenchman Cyril Abiteboul, who Fernandes had employed as team principal, has left the team and is reportedly returning to work for Renault Sport.
Lotus/Caterham finished 10th in the championship for their first three seasons but finished 11th last year.
Tony Fernandes also owns Premier League club Queens Park Rangers

If they fail to finish in the top 10 again this season, it will cost them millions of pounds in prize money.
Fernandes' decision to sell Caterham F1 was based on their failure to improve their performance.
On Friday, Fernandes wrote on his Twitter account, which has now been closed: "F1 hasn't worked, but love Caterham Cars."
