"They wanted to hire me, but required $10,000 up front for my training costs and then were only going to pay $300/session. See the problem?"

TP,

Yep, I see the problem. That's pretty funny. :-)))

Yet their wheels continue to turn ?

Typhoonpilot,

Why would I be kidding?
They have done so in the past, and so did China Airlines. Why wouldn't they hire typerated Captains when needed?

China Airlines yes, but EVA has not hired DECs in ages and there is no indication they ever will again.

What's time to command in Eva looking like nowadays? If so many are heading to China.

I believe they did last year (for a short time) and offering a lot more money than what current Captains make. Let’s just say they weren’t happy….

Hmmmm not really sure. I'd say probably 95% of new hires use an agency....so for sure, longer than with an agency/broker. The good thing is that you will have full senority. The bad (besides longer processing times) is higher ($)/longer training bond.

Sure... there are lots of expat captains and SFO. Most of them on the 747 and 777. Fewer on the buses and ATR.

Any expat pilots can comment on how things are at EVA for expats at the moment?

Lifestyle and pay wise? Rostering?

Feel free to PM. Thank you for any help.

All brokers offer the same thing... just make sure you understand how it works.

Based on the brokers info...

Training Salary (3-5 months...ground,sim IOE): 5200 USD - TAXES(18-20%) - Training Bond (1700USD first 2 or 3months. Then 1100 then 100. Total of 13k in 10-11 months). This 13k will be returned to you in 2 instalments. 6500 month #13 and the other half month 25 AFTER YOUR FIRST OPERATIONAL flight....not your first day at school.

Training is looong and demanding. Fair, in most cases, but it wears you down. EVA is known for their tough training.

8 straight days off/month + 22 annual leave. You should be able to get back to back and add some AL. MOst people always get them but I've heard of cases they haven't.

Is my understanding that guys in the ATR, LITTLE BUS AND BIGGER BUS fly 75 or less. They 74 guys around 80-83 and the 777 around 90 or so. Base is 75.

After training, salary is about 6k after taxes, about 90bucks/hour overtime/ 300hrs perdiem at 3 bucks and hour.....you do the math.

13th Salary and tax return.

Maybe someone has more updated info....

Hey guys,

What is the current upgrade time for new joiner FOs? I heard they are offering accelerated programs now, though don't know if it's just a way to bring on new hires since conditions package isn't too great.

Also I've heard that China Airlines is getting better, and the package is fairly similar. Plus China Airlines actually allow you to be part of a UNION unlike EVA where its not allowed. Anybody know how they compare?

1- Accelerated: No.
2- Upgrade: I've heard about 5 years maybe...assuming everything runs smooth with your record.
3- The package is a good deal if you plan to commute home. You chop off some money in exchange of being home every month (if you wanted to). If you are looking for money you are in the wrong place.

4- Eva Union is starting up.

Maybe someone has more updated info....
