eye vision requirement for CX/KA cadet (severe myopia -12D and severe Astigmatism 5D
Dear all
I want to join CX/KA cadet programme, the website states that the requirement is 20/20 with or without corrective lens.
However, it states that the cadet need to get HKCAD class one medical certificate.
I search for the requirement of eye vision of class one medical certificate, I found the following items:
Distance Vision - Your visual acuity (measured by your ability to see, in this case, lines of letters on a chart at 6 metres) must be at least 6/9 in each eye separately and 6/6 using both eyes together, with or without glasses or contact lenses (correction). If you need correction the refractive error (the amount of correction) must not exceed +5.00 dioptres of long sight or -6.00 dioptres of short sight. This is in the most ametropic meridian (taking into account any astigmatism). Astigmatism must not exceed 2.00 dioptres. The difference in correction between each eye (anisometropia) must not be more than 2.00 dioptres. Your optometrist will be able to explain these terms.
I have myopia (-12D both eyes) and astigmatism (5D both eyes), my vision is 20/20 after wearing corrective lens.
Does it means that i cannot satisfy the requirement of CX/KA cadet? i really want to be a pilot and now i am improving my English and aviation knowledge. However, i afraid that i cannot be a cadet due to my eyes physical condition.
Thank you very much! I am sorry for my poor English (I may get ICAO level one only at this stage, but i am working hard to improve it!)

Erm, -12D means you have 1200 deg myopia? I doubt you'll pass your class 1 medical with that. Most carriers require no more than -5.00, guys have been booted out with -5.25.
I'm sorry to be the one to say this but I highly doubt you can fly with eye sight that bad.

Thank you for answering me!
Yes, I have 1200 degree myopia
Be coz I search different information on the Internet
Some pilot's blog state that CX and KA follow the requirement of hk civic aviation department
And now the requirement is 20/20 (after wearing glass) , then you can satisfy class 1 medical certificate (only the vision requirement)
However, I alsoI search some information like you said (cannot greater than 500 degree.
I really confused.
Now CAD accept laser surgery (but need to wait 6 months to check the eye conditions), or it is possible for me to satisfy the medical requirement?
Thank you very much
