Flying School

Hey guys!

I'm glad somebody was able to start this thread. I, also, am a pilot aspirant and have been wanting to know which pilot schools are worth my time and money. I've been checking out all the possible schools and it seems like all of them have there own good and bad background.

I've been checking out Clark Institute of Aviation as a possible choice and I've received information that they are now offering a CPL/IR type program. I think this is a safer route to follow than their other program (MPL) because of the tuition fee (4M) and other reasons. I've also considered PAL and Omni as my other choices.

What do you guys think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Duh, you posted something about "the best flying school" having lots of float planes and specializing in SeaPlane ratings. Are you referring to a specific flying school? If so, which one is it? And would you also be able to share more info about the number and type of their aircraft, where they operate, and other things concerning the aspect of sea plane flight in Philippines? Could you also point me to where I can get more info on seaplane/amphibious aircraft training and certification in the Philippines? Thank you.

Getting a job after avschool

How competitive is it to get a job after av school?
What does it take for a freshie to land a job?
Are there a lot of lowtime fresh grads out there? (an oversupply of trainees?)
Are there enough opportunities in the market that would take in fresh grads?
Are there anyone who ended up unemployed after finishing av school?

I was at the canteen at Omni and overheard a couple of students discussing their solo cross country flights, the problems they encountered, and how they dealt with them.

It's heartening to hear young pilots sharing their experiences candidly. Hangar flying is a great way to learn from other pilots, regardless of how much time they've logged.

Questions: Your Opinions and Advice

Hi everyone! I wish to take a career in aviation. though there are some questions that keep bugging my mind... same as onedelacruz' questions, i have the same questions as well...



GETTING A JOB AFTER AV SCHOOL

1) How competitive is it to get a job after av school?

2) Are there enough opportunities in the market that would take in fresh grads (so that they can build time)? What is the best way to rack up flight time quickly?

3) Are there anyone who ended up unemployed after finishing av school? What are their options and where are they?

4) What would be the average time for a fresh av school grad to make it to the airlines? More or less, how much would one be able to shell out (financially) before making it to the airline?

5) Cost-Benefit wise, do you think the return on investment (ROI) of this career is good?


ABOUT PAL AVIATION SCHOOL

1) What are the advantages of getting into pal av school versus other aviation schools in terms of making it to the airlines (PAL, CEBPAC, etc)?

2) How competitive is it to get into pal av and is it true that you need to have a backer (or know someone inside) in order to get accepted?

3) What are my chances of getting into the airlines if I'm not from pal av? Anyone you know of who made it to the airlines who didn't come from PAL Av school?

4) Aside from PAL av school, what other av schools have produced the most number of graduates who made it to the airlines in the Philippines and abroad?


RP's PILOT MARKET

1) How's the current employment opportunities in our aviation market for experienced pilots? Are pilots in-demand nowadays?

2) How's the current rate of pinoy pilots moving to foreign carriers (QR, EK, EY etc)? How often do we lose pilots to foreign airlines?

i dont really know which is best so i'll just say all the flight schools that i know of Pal AV, Omni, Indiana Areonautic, Philippines Pilot Training Center (dumaguete), Clark Institute of Aviation, and Aviatour which is based in cebu. i have a cousin who is a pilot who graduated from pal av and a distant uncle who from what i have heard is on Pals board. I also have a classmate who graduated from aviatour. So feel free to just go to their websites. i know all of them have websites except for omni. hope this helps.

Hello all, new member here as well, with just one quick question...

I'm also considering enrolling in flight school, thus trying to decide which school to go to, and I was just curious, which of the aforementioned flying schools is "Air Stink", what's it's real name?

Just wanted to verify this so I don't make the mistake of enrolling here.

Hey you might wanna try Aviatour's Fly'N, INC in Cebu, they are doing pretty good these days. Just a thought ;-)

Omni has become so over-booked with foreign students lately, mainly a lot from india, that its so hard to even get aircraft bookings now. unless u want to just to an hour here and there of touch and go's, but if you're thinking of building up some cross-country there, forget it...u wont get an available airplane for that long without serious advance booking....and even then it might not be available

i did training there few yrs ago and i sometimes had to book weeks in advance just to do some x-country time. they are adding planes but that process is so slow cuz of ATO proceedures for getting new planes online..

Which school is best to enroll?

I am currently working as a staff nurse in one of the best hospitals in Phil but I still want to pursue a career in flying. I have passed my application and requirements with PAL since August 2009 but till now there is still no response coming from them. I am thinking of doing flight training with other schools instead. What schools do you know of based on experience is almost at par with PAL? I am choosing between Airlink in Pasay and Omni in Clark? Is there a good chance of employment once finishing their courses. I am planning take PPL+CPL+ME+IR full time. I hope to finish these courses ASAP. Hope to hear your comments and suggestions.

@ kunal "pilot" while it is generally true that there are a few rotten flying schools in the Philippines that indulge in log book padding (everyone here knows which schools they are)....there are a few schools that very strictly adhere to standards!
Check out the schools operating out of Clark...All the 3 of them do NOT over log!

By the way overlogging is a disease that is rampant in every country when students are in a hurry to get a CPL. Why blame the school alone when the student also is a willing participant in it!

I can name 2 schools in India that indulge in rampant overlogging...the DGCA is aware of it. Has anything been done about it? So DGCA is in no "legal" position to "ban" another ICAO member state's flying school or license!

If you do your homework properly you will realise that there are a few well known schools in the US also that overlog.

Did you realise another thing...it usually involves Indian students who are in a hurry to get their license!

@Air_King: I highly doubt that omni is flooded with Indians in the current situation....yes but they do have a lot of students from the Middle East, Africa and Malaysia! Indian market has dried up a while ago! the ony Indians i see now days are the ones trying to renew and keep afloat their license!

I have been planning to do flight training since last year and hopefully to start on December. Anyway, what I learned from my search for the right flight school would really rely on your career path choice and also your proper selection of the school. Visit the schools, ask questions to their management, students, instructors, etc. about the training process, payment terms, etc. (Whatever concern comes into your mind) Don't be shy asking too much. Then select your top 3 schools in your list and weigh again your options.

Until now I haven't selected a school for my training but I am already in the process of choosing among 3 schools. (1 in the Philippines & 2 abroad).

@ aerocadet: I saw your post regarding the best flying school to enroll in philippines. what are your current selections?

I am planning as well but I dont have a lot of time right now due to my work in the hospital. I am a nurse right now and hope to go abroad someday as a nurse although my family is very supportive financially if I do decide to shift career into flying. But then, I feel that I am getting old for such. I am 22 right now. Can you give me your comments.

ARG flight academy in Plaridel have the nicest 152's and he's got an IFR equipped 172 arriving next week. Very well run, and definitely not the diploma-mill variety. Good thing is they partnered with the dude with Piper aztecs that flies fish. Lots of valuable multi-time for cpl time-builders. Well worth the look.
