Look at it like this. SIA would need around 15-18 months (mostly 18) to complete the MPL license program. So if the program starts December, we're looking at August 2016 for completion. Now out of 18 months, 7 months is spent in ground school which is totally independent of whether one is doing CPL or MPL. So if SIA desperately forecasts a need for pilots they might start recruitment by around October 2015 for new batches starting Jan 2016 so that ground school can be completed by August. If not then we have to wait patiently till April 2016 for batches starting after August 2016. I would think it would be the latter but you never know.
It all depends on their demand and so far it doesn't look like they'll be needing more pilots and initially they will just replace old planes with the new ones coming in and not increase their fleet size. I hope I am wrong though.

They had a couple of batches at the start of the year with around 5-10 students that were taken into training to be posted with MI. Seeing as to they being in the normal CPL and looking at more than 2 years for completion, I think MI would have their requirement for pilots met from these batches and the pilot MPL should only be for SQ for their 777 fleet.

More cost cutting measures as obviously, experienced Captains are more expensive to keep but when will their surplus ever end?

It's won't end for a long time, once the back log clears, then you have all the guys on VPL in Eti***, Scoot, Eva, etc. all coming back.
After that, all the self trained pilots from school's like CAE Oxford, STAA, SFC.
Safely I can say, any hint of an ab initio cadet program with SQ will not materialize for at least 2-3 more years.

I do not know if i should go for STAA for Qatar or Massey?
Does anyone have any advice for going to Massey?
I would like to apply to SIA after Massey. Would it be really risky? And does anyone know any other job opportunities other than SIA?
What is SIA take on hiring Massey grads now?
