BA pulled off this route a year or two ago and replaced with B777-300. The B744 was just not profitable on this route, fuel, and crew costs and strong Aus dollar etc. etc.

How about Willie Walsh!!! he's turned BA around from a similar situation to QF. Just turned a healthy profit.

All this sounds familiar to me here in UK. BA went through this scenario some time ago. Huge unsustainable losses, high costs, and some very restrictive work practices. QF also have the very high Aus...
