Air2bob was just a nickname. Airtwothousand was a bit of a mouthful, and air2 was a bit short. So some bright spark resorted to using the pre 1971 slang for 2 shillings in old UK money - 2 bob.

Ah, that oft repeated myth. The brakes are just fine on the 757, but in reality it's the low landing speed that gives it the nice low landing distances. The rest of your paragraph is spot on though....
