Not to deminish your event too much, but I bet it was a failure of that collective pot, so that it basically beeped the engine up to high N2, but not semi-permanently to maximum power....

Good question: Why do anything? Shutting down a dead engine is closing the barn door after the horse has gone, and shutting down the remaining engine is the beginning a a Very Bad Day, so...
