Last I saw, at least 3 variants of USN P-3 aircraft were flying operational missions, and nowhere near the sea. I am sure that the P-8 will look to take on those roles in the near future, already...

I do not think there are many currently available options other than Wedgetail that come anywhere near UK requirements, and the article is definitely "glass half empty" in the way that it is written....
