US preclearance would be used for about an hour a day at BHX, EDI or GLA. It's not nearly as efficient as MAN/DUB. Even LGW has little business case for preclearance.

True, but if you just about fill a B757, the B788 is a much bigger aeroplane. It's bigger than a B763 and a lot of the routes flown by B757s just won't make the step up, though I suspect BHX will.

Not sure why people get fixated with First, so long as Business gets good yields the route will be safe. Many of the US majors don't even offer it and QR's LHR offering only has it on some flights...
