Merlin (HM1) is flying ops, and deploying at sea - aboard carriers, RFAs, and since 829 NAS has been reformed, Type 23 Frigates.

Certain Type 22 Frigates carried both a Lynx and...

Certain Type 22 Frigates carried both a Lynx and a Sea King. The Type 23 was designed with the Merlin in mind.

T22 beam = 14.8m.
T23 beam = 16.1m.

Surely a Lynx/Merlin combination would allow...

Sorry - but since littoral = near enemy bases

It also needs a Sea Harrier or similar (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98152) to protect from enemy aircraft.....

Surely the MOD have thought about defending helicopters...
