Would the arming devices still be serviceable after prolonged submersion? Also you have no control over the lift at all, even if it works, I'd imagine it would pop up like a cork disturbing valuable...

I don't think their intention was to land at Black Rock for the following reason. The radio message "Landing Blacksod" would have been noticed by another crew member, pointed out, and corrected.
