One additional note... I have found the battery life on the latest 4g Retina version far better than my old iPad mini... not a big problem if your aircraft has a power socket, but if not then this...

I have the ipad mini 4g version and use both Sky-Demon and Air Nav Pro extensively.

Neither has yet had a satellite drop-out for more than a few seconds - and even this is extremely rare.
