g force

NAROBS, you are confusing speed with acceleration. 55 m/s is speed. You seem to be assuming 55 m/s/s (=~5.5g). That would only be the case if the change in vertical speed all occurred in one second.

FBW, trim

Just to be absolutely clear, with FBW you can never fly it completely "like" a non-FBW aircraft. There is simply no physical linkage there to fall back to. There is only a wire (wiring)...

@Nemrytter -- Thanks! It seems that even my imagination regarding tropical extremes, which was so far "out there" that a comment got mod-deleted (in fairness maybe because I referenced global warming...

@HarryMann -- Do the math. Downdraft of 250+ mph?? I mean I'm the one speculating about unprecedented tropical weather phenomena, but that is beyond even my ability to conjecture.

Up Gust

@Bloggs --

?? A severe enough updraft will cause pitchup simply from differential vertical wind speeds between wings/nose and tail.

(But excellent points on "forgetting to remember trim"...

Updraft

@Bloggs re: updraft. I think the scenario being considered is that the updraft was so severe that it stalled them immediately, and also caused enough additional pitch-up (they were already in a...

I can't help thinking that if global warming is happening, then the place where climate/weather dragons (never before seen (unexpected) phenomena) will first show is at the already-hottest places on...

@highflyer -- We'll have to agree to disagree as to "stable" as a requirement I think. I'm positing a possible last-minute achievement of "shallow" (enough). (And again, lack of a comm attempt is not...

@Super re: pre-crash broadcasting. Attractive concept. I would refine it away from CVR audio (creepy, controversial) and even FDR (too much info) though. All you want is continuous (or very...

@highflyer re: possible "ditching". Ditch vs. Crash is a false dichotomy. Possible that pilots barely managed a barely-survivable touchdown. Also, lack of attempted comm is not a certainty....
