dragartist asked about the Herc, he knows about the Nimrod pods.

Yellow Gate was not fitted to the R1 and the wingtip pods fitted to the MR2 and R1 were quite different. Roughly same shape...

The ventral fin on the first of the probe equipped R1s was definitely made of wood. This was the R1 that had the pipework (bowser hose) coming down through the flight deck and into the floor...

Could well have been. The ventral strake fitted to the first Nimrod R1 with a refuelling probe was made of wood.
