On the Airbus to get the additional type rating credit was given from the A330 towards the A340. I guess what they are saying is that for pilots that are not 747 rated a course which gives credit...

Frank that might not be as far fetched as you think. The A330 and A340 were not common type ratings either. Over the years many people lost either their A330 or A340 recency and took next to nothing...
